In a recent conversation with our correspondent, Gaurav Goswami, the General Manager of Fenicia Riverside Resort (Goa), provided some insightful data on the survival of the hotel industry and tourism in India post Covid-19. According to Mr. Goswami, the hotel industry in India is experiencing steady growth, with a 15.1% increase in revenue per available room (Rev PAR) during the third quarter of 2023. Furthermore, the Ministry of Tourism (MOT) data revealed a 106% increase in Foreign Tourist Arrival (FTA) in 2003.

As an industry expert, Mr. Goswami firmly believes that the hotel sector in India can never experience a downfall if executed properly and professionally. When asked about his future projects, he stated that his current focus is solely on his current assignment at the Fenicia Riverside Resort in Goa, which is owned by the Fenicia group of Hotels and Resorts. This stunning resort, which was formerly operated by the Mayfair Group, boasts lush greenery and a spectacular view of the Arabian sea, making it the premier destination in South Goa.

Since the onset of Covid-19, the hotel industry has undergone significant changes in their operations. Mr. Goswami mentioned that hotels are now focused on hiring multi-tasking staff members who can consistently perform well. Revenue management has also become increasingly aggressive, with some hotels even engaging in price wars to maximize occupancy. However, some  brands are even neglecting their Average Room Rate (ARR) in their pursuit of maximum occupancy. Despite these challenges, Mr. Goswami emphasizes that, as a member of the management team, he always strives to explore every possible opportunity to generate business while maintaining strict vigilance on control measures.

In conclusion, Mr. Goswami’s valuable insights shed light on the state of the hotel industry and tourism in India. With proper planning and execution, the hotel sector is poised to thrive in the years to come.
